Social networking must be pretty popular judging from the number of social networking websites listed by Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites
I counted 113 social networking websites at time of publishing, and they were for all kinds of purposes or people, from dating to network for Physicians, from social networks for wine lovers to music lovers, etc. The better known ones are of course included. Among them are Facebook, del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, Twitter, Yahoo 360o, Windows Live Spaces, MySpace, Care2, Flickr, Friendster and a whole lot more.
Here is one more which didn't make the list (yet), a next generation web 2.0 Social Network for sports enthusiasts - sports picks. You can do lots on that social network for sports enthusiasts. Signing up for an account is free and easy. Once you have got an account, you can post, share, buy, and sell sports picks for National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Hockey League (NHL), NCAA Basketball (NCAAB), and NCAA Football (NCAAF). NCAA is short for National Collegiate Athletic Association.
As a member, you can win monthly and seasonal cash and prizes, you can pick your favorites football teams via football picks, or if you are not interested in football, you can go for basketball picks.
If you are an ardent supporters of underdogs, you can try going for handicappers.
You can even create blogs like what I did to try to promote this blog and other blogs. See Enviroman's sport blogs and other blogs.
